This year’s competition in São Paulo, Brazil, was no exception as contestants glided down the stage in beautiful gowns.

Although it is hard to narrow down some of the most striking outfits, we tried to make it easier on you by choosing some of the best trends that were spotted during the Top 10 portion of the competition. The Top 10 portion of the competition is also known as the evening gown category.

Two trends exhibited during this portion of the Miss Universe 2011 competition were sparkly sequins and radiant red.

Dare to Bare

Not only were some dresses laden with sequins, crystals and more shiny baubles, but they were also sheer.

Miss Angola 2011Miss Universe 2011, Miss Angola, stunned the crowd in a dress dotted with crystals and outlined in feathers.

Miss Austrailia dared to bare her gams with a design that accentuated her upper half in a bodice that would have made a bathing suit green with envy.

Miss Philippine’s dress was dripping in silver and metallic discs, accentuating her long and lean curves.

Ravishing in Red
One of the unique designs of the night belonged to Miss Costa Rica. Her barely-there skirt took an elegant turn in the back as a cascading river of ruffles adorned a very flamenco looking ensemble. Ole!

Another red dress was Miss China’s beige and red dress that fit her like a glove.
