Teens’ Biggest Crush, J Balvin, Earns RIAA Latin Digital Diamond Honor

Quinceañera’s reggaetonero sensation is breaking barriers with two Latin Grammy nominations, his latest single, “Ginza,” topping the Latin Airplay Chart for three straight weeks, and earning 10X Multi-Platino.

@gabrielalvarad1. Los Angeles. A roar filled the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in the last couple of weeks as the Colombian Reggaeton singer took the stage during his “La Familia” U.S. tour. But right before his exciting concert, J Balvin took the time to meet with us for 30 very exciting minutes.

Yep… lucky for us, we were seated right in front of him as we saw the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recognize our biggest crush as the first-ever artist to earn Diamante certification for a digital song in RIAA’s Latin Gold and Platinum Program. Congratulations J Balvin!

Now that we have the privilege to get to know him better, we are convinced that José Alvaro is more than a talented singer, whose revolutionary reggaeton makes even our moms, tías, and abuelas dance their heads off. But also, he has a very contagious humbleness that is making us fall in love with him… even more! (How is that possible?)

According to the singer, thanks to his music collaborations with artists like Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull, he has developed a better sense of gratitude. “En la unión está la fuerza (there is strength in numbers) and I’m extremely grateful for having the opportunity to grow as an artist by sharing stages with bigger artists,” said the urban interpreter from Medellín.

“How does it feel to be on top of everything?”, a reporter asked. “I don’t feel I’m on top of anything,” he affirmed. “There is still much to accomplish and many other projects to achieve. My dream is just starting.”

However, he feels honored and grateful for his latest accomplishments, two nominations to the Latin Grammys, three consecutive chart-topping singles, the fast follow-up ascent to #1 on Latin Airplay of his latest single “Ginza”, and for being the first-ever artist to earn Diamante certification for a digital song in RIAA’s Latin Gold & Platinum Program.

And the list keeps going.

We did talk about his reaction against Donald Trump’s offensive accusations against immigrants. J Balvin being one of the first artists to retaliate against him by canceling his Miss USA performance, to what he argues to be a very real but impulsive reaction. “I wasn’t trying to be Robin Hood. I’ve worked very hard in this country before, painting houses and doing maintenance, and now I look back and to think that these people with honorable jobs are getting judged, is unacceptable.”

We’ve said it before, talented and humble.

We also took the time to see J Balvin with special guest, Becky G, performing at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Furthermore, we certainly did experience his new reggaeton promise, a unique urban fusion that blends influences from Puerto Rico’s pioneering reggaeton artists, with the distinct Colombian rhythms of his heritage.

J Balvin dedicates his awards to his mom. “She is my everything,” and lucky for us ladies, this Colombian reggeatonero hasn’t found the love of his life, yet. Do you think it will take him much longer?

We hope to see you soon, J Balvin, in another successful tour. And for you Quinceañeras, are you ready to dance to the sound of the biggest breakout act, Latin music has seen in many years?
