Perhaps one of the few televised award programs where fans have control over the nominees and the award recipients is television network Univision’s  “Premios Juventud Awards”. Now in its six-year run, the annual awards ceremony continues its fan-voted awards show awarding Spanish-speaking celebrities in numerous categories including music, sports, fashion, film and pop culture. Speaking the language of its young, female-led audience, the Premios Juventud categories take on a youthful spin with “What a Hottie!”, “Must-Have Album” and “My Favorite Concert” award categories. Other categories unique to the awards show are “Best Dancer”, “Catchiest Tune”, “Paparazzi’s Favorite Target”, “My Ringtones”, “Best Female Athlete” and “Best Male Athlete”, to name a few.

The 2010 Premios Juventud awards show nominees includes a list of artists whom are neck and neck leading with a total of nine nominations. Bachata music group Aventura, who according to the “Top 20 Concert Tours” list gathered by the Associated Press topped Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and John Mayer in concert box office revenues, is one of those artists. With a nomination in the “Perfect Combination”, “Artist of the Moment”, “Catchiest Tune”, “Must-Have CD”, “My Favorite Concert”, “Best Ballad”, “My Favorite Video”, “My Ringtone” and “Favorite Tropical Artist”, the New York based quartet shares in most of those nominations with colleagues Anahí and Chayanne.

Premios Juventud: Aventura

Anahí’s solo debut album, Delirio, granted her nominations in the “Best Moves”, “Catchiest Tune”, “Must-Have CD”, “My Favorite Video”, “My Ringtone”, “Favorite Pop Star”, “Girl of My Dreams”, “My Idol Is…” and “Paparazzi’s Favorite Target” categories, and Puerto Rican pop star Chayanne’s No Hay Imposible album in the “Artist of the Moment”, “Catchiest Tune”, “Must-Have CD”, “Best Ballad”, “My Favorite Video”, “Favorite Pop Star”, “What a Hottie!”, “My Idol Is…” and “Best Moves” categories.

Surprisingly, Shakira’s She Wolf hit album granted her only three nominations (“Best Moves”, “Favorite Video” and “My Ringtones”) despite the album's platinum certification.

Premios Juventud: ChayanneFemale golfer, Lorena Ochoa, whom earlier this year made public her plans of retiring from the sport, is also nominated for a Premios Juventud Award under the “Most Electrifying Female Athlete” category. Other nominees in the athlete categories include
Alex Rodríguez (The New York Yankees), Cuauhtémoc Blanco (Tiburones de Veracruz), Javier “Chicharito” Hernández (Chivas del Guadalajara) Kina Malpartida (Boxing) and Milka Duno (Auto Racing).

Voting for the nominees has concluded, but to find out whether Anahí, Aventura or Chayanne will steal the night at the 2010 Premios Juventud Awards, catch the live broadcast on July 15th at 7pm EST.
