The Mexican fashion designer’s comeback is better than ever. His latest bridal, gowns, and Quinceanera dresses collection is now available at his new Beverly Hills boutique.

Mitzy’s professional career began forty years ago in Mexico, where he was responsible for dressing great artists such as Maria Felix, Rocio Durcal, and Salma Hayek.

After designing Thalia’s wedding dress and opening several stores in Los Angeles, his U.S. stardom took off and celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry began to proudly wear his creations on red carpet events, too.

Nowadays, although the famous Mexican designer maintains the same passion for colors, sumptuous fabrics, and impeccable cut styles that catapulted his career, he assures us that the key to success is innovation. Perhaps that is why the most recent celebrity to purchase one of his designs was Lady Gaga herself, who picked one of his Quinceanera dresses to add to her already motley wardrobe.

Surrounded by his latest bridal, evening gowns, and Quinceanera dresses, the unsparing designer welcomes us into his Beverly Hills boutique and shares this season’s trends as well as his new projects, which include for the first time a ‘pret-a-porter’ line.

Seems as if you are always at the top of your game, how do you do it?
I have always innovated and done things differently; something that since my early years has truly characterized my career. My success has always been among glitter and sequins whether it is for gowns or Quince dresses. Plus, I know what best fits certain body types, and that is something Quinceaneras appreciate.

What is your best advice for Quinceaneras and their families?
I suggest not using the same color for the dress and decorations since the Quinceanera can get lost in all the décor. By receiving the invitation guests can speculate how everything will be, there are no surprise. So, my advice is for them to try to be original. I sometimes add a tiny touch of gold to the dress so the girl is distinguished all night as the queen of the celebration.

In regards to ornaments and accessories, do you think “less is more”?
Of course. It is fundamental to wear the less possible. With the bouquet, the tiara, and the dress is more than enough. I suggest choosing small yet elegant earrings. As for shoes, my advice is not to take a new pair, these will later show discomfort on their faces. They should wear the most comfortable shoes, after all the dress will most likely cover them.

How important are makeup and hair when it comes to a Quinceanera look?
Extremely important. A beautiful dress can go to waste without the proper hair and makeup. Seems as if girls now prefer to wear their hair up, unfortunately most of them cannot be appreciated in photos. Therefore, I suggest they choose a hairdo that can be appreciated from every angle. Another mistake girls make is wearing makeup the same color as their dress. A professional makeup artist has to know what works best for every girl’s face and hair color.

As for tendencies, what colors and styles will we find in your new boutique?
This year’s color is emerald green. In my collection there are several dresses in that tone, as well as in jade blue or aqua. As far as styles, vintage is still in trend and about 70% of my creations still have that antique look with brocade, lace, and puffy sleeves, which girls love.

After 40 years of high couture fashion, it is ‘pret-a-porter’s turn. When will we see your new collection?
Very soon, I am currently working with Target and Macy’s designing a more urban collection as well as prom dresses. This is an upcoming challenge and I am really excited for it.
