Raul Corona’s “Princess” Collection

To great acceptance, Mexican designer Raul Corona presented his “Princess” collection of Quinceañera dresses to attendees of the 2012 Ontario Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show. The showcase, which took place on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Ontario Convention Center, exemplified Corona’s intricate work and attention to detail.

With models provided by LenteVision Productions, the presentation began with a gypsy processional march that included a color guard crew as well.

Following his signature style of Quince dresses with long trains, the gowns presented by Corona were strapless, corset designs in a pink, white and ivory color palette. Skirts, created with overlays of tulle, taffeta and satin, accompanied corset tops that were enhanced with delicate beading. Unlike his previous collections, which have incorporated elaborate headpieces and large hairdos that have labeled the designer as flamboyant, the “Princess” collection was presented with traditional Quinceañera tiaras and romantic updo’s.

However, the designer also managed to squeeze in a few pieces of his “Phantom of the Opera” inspired collection, which he first presented at the 2012 Los Angeles Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show. That collection kept to the “over the top” beat that Quince girls are used to seeing from Corona, and incorporated headpieces with a combination of feathers, rhinestones and veils, which adorned teased, beehive hairstyles.

Corona’s presentation of Quinceañera dresses was amplified by the onstage performance of emerging talent Melissa Samaniengo. The young singer performed “My Heart Will Go On” as Corona’s models made their last run through the runway.
