Book for Quinceañeras Gives Religious Meaning to Celebration Print E-mail
Written by Quinceanera Author

Quince BookBefore you celebrate your quinceañera, it’s important for you to think about the religious meaning of the ceremony. You already know that a quinceañera represents a transition into adulthood and if you are a devout follower, then it also represents a commitment to God.

Due to the large number of girls (like you), who want to reaffirm their religious beliefs, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops have published a book titled “Order for the Blessing on the Fifteenth Birthday,” which can help you and your priest plan the religious ceremony.

The book became available on September 2008 in both English and Spanish. It includes blessings, prayers, and Bible readings that underline a woman’s role in church. Also, it includes an appendix with petitions or interceding prayers, in which you can pray to God for the quinceañera’s faith as well as her friends and family’s.

What to expect for your Quince mass Print E-mail

church, iglesia, mass, misa, quinceaneraThe Quinceañera celebration and religion have traditionally gone hand in hand. To some, the Quinceañera symbolizes that the young lady is growing in her faith and is ready to take on a more significant role in both her religious and social communities. Today, many families who celebrate a Quinceañera still encourage the young lady to take part in a Misa de acción de gracias or “Thanksgiving Mass” to reaffirm her values and beliefs, and also to express gratitude to her family and friends.

The Quinceañera Ceremony Print E-mail
Written by Quinceanera Author
CeremonyThe origins of the Quinceañera are often attributed to the ancient customs of the Aztecs, but the ceremony and its meaning are similar to the initiation rites practiced by other cultures the world over. The purpose of the ceremony is to celebrate a girl’s transformation from childhood to young adulthood and to formally assign her a new social role before the entire community.
Today there are various ways to celebrate the Quinceañera, although the significance has not changed. The Church plays an important role in the ceremony in some Central American countries, as well as in Mexico and Puerto Rico. In other Central and South American countries the Quinceañera celebration has no religious involvement; which makes the banquet the principal part of the event.

Smart Tips!

  • Don’t drink alcohol during your party
If you’re turning fifteen, you should not be drinking alcohol. In addition to the fact that it is illegal, there is nothing more disconcerting than seeing a quinceañera drinking alcohol at her celebration. Avoid drinking alcohol for this night and the following six years of your life.
