Shakira’s New Music Video, She Wolf Print E-mail

Shakira

From walking barefoot to embracing the wolf within, Colombian pop star, Shakira, has come a long way since her 1995 mainstream debut as the black-haired songstress that captivated the Spanish speaking market with her “Pies descalzos”. Since her debut as well, many quinceañeras have taken to performing a Shakira hit as part of their quinceañera surprise dance. Popular amongst most quinceañeras are the Colombian’s “Ojos así” as well as her duet with Alejandro Sanz, “La tortura”.

The 36 year-old performer recently released the video to the first single off her latest and now seventh studio album, She Wolf-which has created a great buzz both amongst Shakira long time followers and those familiar with her only since her first English studio album and crossover project, Laundry Service. Musically similar to what Lady Gaga is currently producing, and donninga look very much like what we’re used to seeing Beyonce wear, this hot new track and steaming choreography may ignite the flame for another heat wave of quinceañeras that will be dancing the night away to the She Wolf tune.

Shakira

Wearing only a nude bodysuit and an asymmetrically cut black unitard throughout the entire video, a very provocative Shakira embraces the “she wolf” within portraying a lady-by-day and she-wolf-by-night character. But it’s not only what the songstress appears wearing that has people talking, it’s also how the she-wolf moves about. Locked in a cage and moving about on all fours when not dangling from the cage bars is far from the Shakira that debuted strumming her guitar on green pastures. As for the contorting and sensual moves that the performer busts out while caged up, She Wolf’s video director, Jake Nava, who most recently directed Mrs. Britney Spear’s “If u Seek Amy” (Circus) vid, explains that the cage in which Shakira appears dancing is an opportunity for her to move in a different kind of way, and offer “the kids” and market something new to see.

What do you think? Will you be dancing your quince surprise dance a la "She Wolf"? Or are you holding your breath for a more rockera Shakira to spring back some time soon?
