Seek inspiration through quilt art

Celebrate your American essence and decorate your Quinceañera party with imagery, art, and ideas representing patching art.

This specific kind of art also known as quilting, was initiated in Egypt, made its way to Europe during the Crusades, and became popular in the United States while tracing Native Americans most known tradition. It reached its highest form of expression during the 20th century with the popularity of sewing machines. An equivalent in Latin America for patching art could be the beautiful “molas panameñas” which tell the story and traditions of the Kuna tribe with their bright colors and their entangled designs, generally representing nature.

In current or older quilts you can find beautiful designs to decorate your walls, bring color to your tables, buy or making your own party favors, perhaps even embroidering your name in gorgeous rugs for your guests to take home. Think patching art is limited to blue jeans prints and floral patterns? Well, you are wrong! This art offers infinitive options such as diverse fabrics, colors, and combinations available to purchase today.

This art consists of sewing and putting pieces of fabric together, in order to come up with a larger and decorative piece. Those sewed face to face mostly have padding in between. The ensemble is usually done following a previous pattern, however it can also be done randomly. It can be done by hand or with the help of a sewing machine and has the characteristic of being a communal art which brings people together to share stories as well as techniques.

If you fear there is not enough time for sewing each one of the pieces, you can also purchase them ready-made. These might work as table cloths and table mats, or as party favors such as handkerchiefs, small purses, wrapped boxes or printed and patterned fabrics symbolizing a quilt.

You might as well take advantage and request a quilt - looking cake! You can also use different shaped transparent containers filled up with candy of your chosen colors to make your main table look as if it was a diverse-printed quilt.
