How to Detox with a Spring Cleanse

Your house isn’t the only one in need of a spring cleaning. After months of eating junk food your body must be filled with toxins that are devouring your energy.

Here’s how to put an end to this poor outcome with an at-home spring cleanse.

Exclude what isn’t good for you The first step in a spring cleanse is to stop eating and drinking whatever continues to fill your body with toxins. Start by getting rid of anything containing white flour, and move on with excluding sugar, processed food, junk food, heated fats and oils and high-salt foods. Some of the worst foods to consume during a detox period are meat (it slows down digestion), dairy products (they’re acidic and slow down the cleanse), and gluten (it irritates the gut).

Include what’s good for you Detoxification doesn’t mean living on the air you breathe. You can still eat delicious meals, as long as they’re light and healthy for your organism. Here are a couple of detox diet tips that should guide you:

Eat warm cooked foods, such as soups and broths. Focus on easy-to-digest fruits, veggies, and grains like apples, pears, figs, papayas, leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, quinoa, amaranth, barley and brown rice.

Eat fresh organic foods. Season your meals with detoxifying spices like cumin, turmeric, fennel, coriander, fresh ginger and black pepper.

Drink at least eight cups of water every day. Lukewarm/hot water (try hot water with lemon) is especially helpful for getting rid of toxins and facilitating their way out of the body.

Be active, but don’t forget to rest You can eat all the healthy food you want, but if you are not moving, you are not doing your body any favors. You don’t have to join a gym, if that’s not your cup of tea. Choose an activity that suits you best. Brisk walking, running, cycling or dancing, everything is permitted. However, the fact that you are active doesn’t mean you shouldn’t find time to rest. In fact, sleeping at least eight hours a night will revitalize your organism.

Establish a healthy sleep routine, when you will go to bed around 10 p.m. and get up at 6 a.m. and avoid sleeping during the day. Finally, don’t end the detoxification process suddenly. Take your time to ease your organism into your regular diet and lifestyle, and if you have had any previous bad habits (e.g. junk food), try to give them up.
