The time has come! Your mom has finally let you wear makeup, yay!
Take a deep breath and don’t go crazy applying every product you can grab. The next rules will help you on this new makeup adventure you’re about to embark!
10) Don’t wear foundation unless you actually need it
Your skin is young, healthy and wrinkle free. There is no need to clog your pores as such an early stage in life. Wearing makeup for the first time means going from clear to dark mascara, consider concealer, eyeliner, a shiny lip-gloss and a little bit of blush.
9) Choose the right tone of foundation/concealer
If you still want to get these products, don’t choose them yourself. Go to the nearest mall and speak to a makeup specialist so she can match your skin type and tone to the ideal beauty product.
8) Avoid using too many products
As much as you like the commercials your skin does not need that many products let alone your wallet. Stick to the basics:
Moisturizer+ foundation/concealer (optional) +blush + mascara +eyeliner +lip-gloss + cleanser
7) Don’t over pluck your eyebrows
Your eyebrows are the frame of your face. Our best advice would be to thread them, NOT DIY! Again, go to a professional, they’ll understand the shape of your eyes and face and will only clean the area around your eyebrows complimenting the rest.

Threading your eyebrows is the way to go!
6) Leave eye shadows for later
Experimenting with eye shadow was cool only when playing dress-up as kid. Keep in mind that less is more; you don’t want to look like a clown. A trimmed eyebrow with eyeliner and mascara will do!
5) Practice at home
Don’t wait until the day of your friend’s XV to try on new techniques. Practice makes perfect! And the best is to practice on your days off.
4) Look up Makeup gurus on YouTube for inspiration
Learn from the best! Think of YouTube as your inspirational guide, our personal favorites are Pixiwoo, Lisa Eldridge, Michelle Phan (well, of course!) and Zoella.

Check out Zoella’s YouTube channel here!
3) Don’t ever sleep with your makeup on
This is the best time to include this beauty habit into your routine. As years go by and you continue to master your makeup techniques and with the change of your skin, cleansing your face will be key to keep it fresh and healthy.
2) Moisturize your skin daily, whether you’re wearing makeup or not
Your skin will be new to makeup and perhaps it will react different to the products you will try on. Which is why moisturizing is a must as it nurtures your skin and protects it a bit from getting imperfections. Also, don’t forget to wear sunscreen under your makeup during summer!
1) Wear makeup to enhance your beauty, not to hide imperfections
You are beautiful! Do not wear makeup with the idea to hide what you might see as imperfect. On a pimple day, sure try you best to hide it but don’t try as hard or you’ll end up with a “cakey” texture on your face. Focus on your best features and learn how to enhance your gorgeous eyes, or highlight your killer eyebrows!
