Instead of enhancing your natural beauty, you may be hiding it on your Quince under your heavy makeup. Don’t fall into the trap of temptation to overdo it. Sure, it’s a significant event in your life but you want to cherish your photos years to come and not regret looking like a clown.
You asked and we answered! These are the tips and tricks runway makeup artists and professionals are using for a flawless yet natural appearance:
1. What is considered natural makeup?
Let’s begin with the basics! Natural makeup allows you to enhance rather than hide your beauty. Less is always more when it comes to makeup, especially if you’re 15 years old. Your skin is youthful and fresh. Adopt a skin care routine to avoid skin damage and wrinkles in the future.
2. Should I apply glittery or shiny makeup?
It’s okay to pick a glittery eye shadow or a shiny lip color, but never both! Balance your makeup so the features you’re trying to enhance are accomplished in a discreet way.
3. How do I choose the right shade of blush?
Choose the intensity of your blush according to your skin tone. For fair to light skinned chicas, using deep berry or plum shades will make your cheeks look bruised and unflattering. Instead, opt in for pale pink, rose, or peach blush shades that’ll bring out your complexion. Quinceaneras with medium to tan skin tones should apply intenser shades such as plum, russet, and mahogany shades.
4. What are the rules to apply eye shadow?
Remember, the purpose of applying eye shadow is to enhance your eye area, not to color it. With that being said, do not apply blue eye shadow if your eyes are blue..it’ll look out of date! Especially if you’re trying to go for the natural look, brown shades will always enhance any eye color and skin tone.
5. How do I choose the best lip color?
Pick a lip color according to your skin tone! Here’s a quick guide:
Olive Skin Tones: Nude, pink, orange, and red shades.
Fair Skin Tones: Bold reds and deep colors, never light colors or yellow undertones because it’ll make you look washed out.
Darker Skin Tones: Deep plums, berry, or reds.
6. How do I make lipstick last longer?
You’ll be kissing your guests as they enter the venue, eating a feast, and taking pictures on your quinceanera so make sure your lips are on fleek at all times. Not to worry, we have the secret formula! First, use a lip scrub to get rid of dead skin roaming around your pout (try Elf Lip Exfoliator). Second, apply a non oily lip balm to hydrate your lips. Third step is to apply a little foundation or concealer over your lips. This will give your lipstick something to adhere to and your lip’s true color will come through. Fourth step, outline and fill in your lips with a lip liner of the same or closest color to your lipstick. Fifth, apply your lipstick evenly on your lips. Finally, grab a tissue and separate it into two halves. Place a sheet on your lip and apply a translucent powder such as Makeup Forever HD powder over the tissue. This is the trick makeup artists do on the runway!
7. How do I not smear my mascara?
Apply mascara after eyes shadow and eyeliner to avoid flaking and smearing. It’ll also make it easier for you to judge whether you need to apply more mascara or keep it to a minimal. Wash your mascara after a few uses to avoid build up and clumping. Apply your mascara in layers to build beautiful lashes but be careful about overdoing it. Curl your lashes before you apply mascara. Never do so after to prevent clumping and unnaturally bent lashes. Start with three strokes of mascara on one eye and then apply the same amount of strokes in the other eye and then come back to the other eye. Use waterproof mascara on special occasions such as on your quinceanera but not on a daily basis because it damages your lashes when you’re trying to remove.
8. What’s the best skin care routine?
Right now you may think that you don’t need to adopt a skin care routine. But trust us, you’ll be thanking us when you’re older and you have flawless and acne-free skin. To accomplish this, start by cleansing your face twice a day in the morning when you wake up and at night before bedtime with a face cleanser. This is to ensure you refresh your face in the morning and wash off all your makeup and impurities before falling asleep. Build up can cause your skin to break out. Then apply a water based face toner to restore the pH of your skin. Purchase a face lotion that matches your skin type and has sunscreen, at least SPF 15, to prevent premature wrinkles. There are tons of options for face lotions containing vitamins that’ll replenish and refresh your skin. Take care of your acne by applying a lotion with no more than 2% of salicylic acid and DO NOT pop your pimples. Popping your pimples may cause infection and will lead to scarring. We recommend applying face masks no more than twice a week to exfoliate and moisturize.
9. What would be the best eyeliner for the shape of my eyes?
Asymmetrical Eyes: Use black eyeliner along the lash line from the inner corner to the outer corner of your eye increasing the width of your eyes.
Close-set Eyes: Use a concealer on the inner corner of your eyes. On the outer third corner of your eye, use a black liner to create a “V” shape. Then trace the shape with a jumbo liquid liner to create a thick wing.
Small Eyes: Apply a taupe eye shadow up to the crease. Then use a black pencil along the lash line. Smudge it with your fingertip and use a dark brown eye shadow to finish your look. Repeat the same black pencil and brown eye shadow for the lower lash line.
Wide Eyes: A cat-eye looks best for this eye shape! Start by creating a tiny “V” in the inner corner of your eye using a black pencil. Outline it with liquid eyeliner and wing it out in the outer corner of your eyes.
10. What’s the best way to apply foundation like a pro?
Purchase a foundation that perfectly matches your skin tone, this will ensure that you have a fresh canvas to work from. There are three ways to apply foundation: with your finger, sponge, or brush. Applying it with your finger will blend it better but can also spread germs, causing you to break out. Therefore, a brush or sponge will help you keep the bacteria away so it’s ultimately your choice. Prep your face by cleansing and using a face lotion. Wait for five minutes before applying your foundation. Begin by applying it to the center of your face, either cheek near your nose, your chin, and a bit on your forehead. Use your selected tool to evenly blend and spread your foundation across your face. Prevent a cakey and fake appearance by applying a minimal amount of foundation and making sure it is evenly blended. Use concealer after foundation, especially in troubled areas. Apply a setting powder as a finishing touch.
