It’s normal to want to change aspects of ourselves but we shouldn’t damage our self-esteem in the process.
If you do so, you project a negative image, but with confidence in yourself then the changes you make will be positive for your self-esteem.:
Tips to build a healthy self-esteem:
1. Avoid tormenting yourself with your own thoughts.
When you start thinking about something that causes fear or anxiety, find something in your memory that brings you happiness and replace those negative thoughts with something positive. It can be as simple as that.
2. Don’t hate yourself for having negative thoughts.
Simply replace them for positive thoughts about yourself. Be gentle and patient with yourself while you learn and apply these new ways to think.
3. If criticism lowers your self-esteem, then appreciation strengthens it.
So congratulate and reward yourself as much as you can. Tell yourself how much you have achieved in everything you do. And if something didn’t turn out as expected, simply promise yourself to do it better next time… without feeling bad about yourself.
4. Find new ways to support yourself.
Find friends that are a positive influence on your life, find local professionals and let them help you. It takes a strong person to ask for help when they need it.
5. Look at yourself in the eyes frequently.
Do this at least once a day and repeat the following: “I love myself, I accept myself and I am proud of who I am.” Don’t wait until you feel good to love yourself. Don’t wait until you lose weight, have a boyfriend, or get good grades. Love yourself today!
