Hispanic StudentsFor students who are about to graduate from high school, the deadline to apply for a scholarship is February 27, 2009.

Procter & Gamble announced their $150,000 contribution to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), a national organization that supports Hispanic college students, to provide scholarships for Hispanic students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. The focus of this scholarship is the fact that very few Hispanics become professionals in these four areas of study because those who wish to pursue these careers cannot afford college tuition.

According to a report made by Congress about the Science and Technology Workforce in the United States, jobs in science and technology are among the 30 fastest growing careers, with a 27% margin in comparison to 10% in other careers. Other U.S. Census data confirms that only 13% of Hispanics 25 years of age or older are able to obtain a Bachelor’s degree or other graduate degree.

Requirements

  • Must have a 3.0+ G.P.A.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a permanent resident card.
  • Must obtain or plan to obtain a college degree.

  • Applications can only be submitted through the Hispanic Scholarship Fund webpage: www.hsf.net
  • Paper applications will not be accepted before or after the deadline.
  • Applicants must have a valid personal e-mail address; it cannot belong to a friend or family member.
