It was just a few months ago that I first had the pleasure of meeting Jazzel Garcia. It was during the semifinals for Quinceanera.com’s search for the cover girl of its October magazine issue that the then soon-to-be-Quinceañera introduced herself as an aspiring model and a young girl with a soft spot for all things Barbie doll related.
During the contest’s interview portion with the judges where three finalists were to be selected, Jazzel, along with the other semi finalists, sat before the judges to explain why they should be chosen to be on the cover of the Quinceanera.com Magazine October 2011 issue. “Because I’m a sweet girl with a positive attitude all the time and because modeling is my thing,” was Jazzel’s response. Needless to say, it was her positive attitude indeed, along with her charming personality and captivating smile, what landed her a spot in the finals along with contestants Esmeralda Ibarra, 14, and Dayanne Gonzalez, 15.
With the three finalists selected, it was then up to the public to vote for their favorite candidate. The online voting was made available through Quinceanera.com and kept open until minutes before the winner was announced on the stage of the Ontario Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show held on September 24, 2011.
With all the votes in and counted for, Jazzel, Esmeralda and Dayanne stood on the event stage before hundreds of attendees waiting in anticipation of who would be crowned the next cover girl. The anticipation grew higher and finally, the name of the winner was announced: Dayanne Gonzalez. As the crowd applauded the new cover girl, Jazzel fought back the tears until she was backstage. “I just cried”, she remembers. “I really wanted to win.”
The wound of not winning began to fade weeks after the competition. And with the planning of her Quince, which was celebrated in a lavish Barbie theme, Jazzel was able to slowly forget about that moment. “And then around Christmas time we got a call from the Quinceanera.com staff,” states Sonia Garcia, mother of the aspiring model. “They told us they remembered Jazzel and that they wanted her to be their model for this year’s campaign.”
And just like that, Jazzel’s dreams were well on their way of manifesting into a reality. The multi talented Quinceañera dress designer Raul Corona was called to dress the model and the professional photography services of Sergio Aguilar were booked to capture the images that would make up the artwork for the Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show campaign, which would feature Jazzel in all promotional advertisements including print, online, and social media for the entire calendar year of 2012.
“I never thought I was going to be contacted again after being one of the finalists for the cover girl contest,” stated Jazzel. “But when I was, it was the best Christmas gift ever!”
Quinceanera.com captured the very moment that Jazzel’s dreams became a reality with her first photo shoot ever. View that moment in the slideshow here, and the search for the next cover girl of Quinceanera.com is well on its way. Find out about the contest rules and regulations here, and good luck!
