Choosing your court of honor might be kind of hard to do, especially if you have a big group of friends. In this case you have to first decide how many couples you plan to have.

Whether they are your friends, siblings, cousins or close family members, you have to take full responsibility of this important decision. Both, your party’s success as well as your mental stability rely on it.

Here are a few tips for choosing your damas and chambelanes:

  • Talk to your parents and determine the size of your entourage - Then, you’ll know how many damas and chambelanes you’ll have to pick.
  • Learn to control your emotions - Before getting defensive with your parents, any other member of your family or court of honor, think before you speak. Write your thoughts on paper first, then your reasons of your disagreements and finally, let your parents know what you think without any drama or immature behavior.
  • If you have too many candidates, make a preliminary list - You can write their names and reasons why they should be part of your entourage. You can even grade them on a scale from 1 to 10 to make the evaluation process a bit more precise.
  • Once you make your decision about your damas and chambelanes, prepare yourself - Invite the candidate out for lunch. Don’t compromise them if they don’t want to accept your invite. Prepare yourself mentally in case you get a no for an answer. Keep in mind, being part of a Quinceañera’s entourage means money, dance rehearsals or perhaps even private aspects of their lives. Consider they might be too shy to dance. Whatever the reason is, don’t take it personally.
  • Keep an open mind - Rehearsing with your entourage, agreeing on every single detail and getting along with everyone is not an easy task. Keep in mind they each have different personalities and interests. Listen to them equally without showing preferences.
  • Stay alert - Identify issues sooner than later. Hopefully, this won’t be the case, but if there is a rotten apple, make sure to get it out of the box discretely.
