80s Hits to Add to your Quinceañera Music Playlist!

Traditional Quinceañera music might have some of your guests falling asleep and wanting to leave. However, fun, fast paced, beat-driven, and funky music would be great for a Quince party.

With the 1980s as your Quinceañera music inspiration, your guests will jump and dance.

The 1980s showcased music that chronicled the times and events of the era. In some ways, the musical genres during the 1980s set a precedent for future bands and artists. MTV brought about the music video, setting apart a whole new way to enjoy pop music. During this time the term “one hit wonder” entered into the vernacular; hair metal bands would rule the country; and pop superstars were born.

On August 1, 1981, the band The Buggles, a one hit wonder, aired as the first MTV video, “Video Killed the Radio Star.” Thus, sparked a whole new way to enjoy music! Music videos would then create stars overnight, providing bands a fast and outreaching way to be seen and heard.

One of the biggest movements of the early eighties grew out of the punk movement of the late seventies. New wave music was part punk, part dance, and part kitsch. The uniqueness and revolutionary sounds of this time would make for very interesting Quinceañera music.

The synthesizer was the instrument of choice, playing danceable music. Some of the notable New wave groups of the eighties include Culture Club, Duran Duran, New Order, Human League, the B-52’s, Eurhythmics, Tears for Fears, The Police and more. Heavy metal came out with bands like Def Lepard, Poison, Motley Crew, Cinderella, Quiet Riot, Whitesnake, Scorpions, and others that became known as “hair bands.” Classic rock acts hit big time during that decade as well. Bon Jovi, U2, Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., and Aerosmith all released memorable hits in the 80’s. Others like Bryan Adams, Eddie Money, Sammy Hagar, Billy Joel, Tina Turner, Elton John, and Stevie Nicks stole the hearts of different audiences. More pop-sounding acts to hit it big included J. Geils Band, Huey Lewis and the News, Men at Work, and the Stray Cats. These upbeat songs will make your quinceañera music playlist exciting!

Finally the 80’s saw the breakout success of many pop superstars you know of today. These wonders include Madonna, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, George Michael, and Prince.
