Flex wants your Quince party to dance to the beat of his new album

Romantic Style Parte 3: Desde la EsenciaFollowing his 2009 release of La Evolución Romantic Style, which is currently nominated for two Premios Billboard 2010 awards, Panamanian artist Flex throws a third album into the romantic style mix. Promoting the first single of his Romantic Style Parte 3: Desde la Esencia album, Flex talks to Quinceanera.com about the evolution of this third release and about how the single “Besos de Amor” better make it to your quince party!

I’ve been known to be a chambelan in my younger years. I was part of the court in one or two of my friends’ quinceañeras back home, so I know a lot about those parties. And actually, in my new album, there are some songs that can even be used for the quinceañera’s surprise dance. “Entre mis brazos” or the first single “Besos de amor” would be great because you can dance to them, but they’re also very romantic. And his album is very good for that. It’s based completely from the essence of romantic reggae, which is what I’ve always been known for as an artist. Aside from “Entre mis brazos” and “Besos de Amor”, Romantic Style Parte 3: Desde la Esencia has that fusion or dance tunes as well as tracks that are romantic and mixed in with dance pop.

The name of the title comes from the simple fact that because it’s a return to the romantic reggae essence that I mentioned earlier. It was also recorded in Panama from beginning to end, and it has that essence of music from Panama and the flavor of the Panamanian people. I hadn’t given any of my previous albums this title because “Te Quiero” was released as the first single of my debut album, so we decided to go with that track title and label it, Te Quiero: Romantic Style in Da World. And with the second album, it was more of a fusion with pop, so it didn’t really go with it. But now with this third album I go back to the basics, which is that romantic way of spinning reggae.

Romantic Style Parte 3: Desde la EsenciaWorking amongst friends
Ricky Ric worked with me and collaborated as one of the voices on the first single, “Besos de Amor”. The fact that I was able to work with him again was genius since we worked together previously on a project with the Kumbia All Starz. It’s always been important for me to include other artists in my albums so that people can enjoy that musical fusion, since I think that musical collaborations always give albums a distinct sound.

We also worked with Omar Chaparro for the music video of “Besos de Amor”. We wanted to make a video that was playful and funny, and who better than Omar Chaparro for that type of project. The concept to the video is of the classic situation where a guy or girl can’t tell whether their crush likes them in return. We wanted to present it in a comical way, and I think that we achieved that.

The search continues
I’m contemplating whether this series will have a fourth part in the near future. But in the meanwhile, I’m working on the promotion of this album and preparing for the Premios Billboard where my last album, La Evolución Romantic Style is nominated in two categories. With the nomination in awards like these, it's always a pressure with all the albums to present only the best, and I think we achieved that with Romantic Style Parte 3: Desde la Esencia. I hope that next year we find ourselves in this same spot with a couple of nominations for Romantic Style Parte 3: Desde la Esencia and with more songs for those quinceañeras.
