Choosing your court of honor can be complicated, especially if you have a large group of friends. In this case, the first thing you should decide is how many couples you plan to have. The couples you choose can be your friends, siblings, cousins, or close relatives.

Choosing your damas and chambelanes is a fun but also important responsibility, and you should take the time to decide.

Here are a few tips for choosing your damas and chambelanes:

  • Talk to your parents and determine the size of your court. Start by discussing the size of your court with your parents. This will help you understand how many damas and chambelanes you need to choose.
  • Listen to advice but make your own decision. Your parents may suggest names, but the final decision should be yours. Before reacting emotionally, write down your thoughts and reasons. Then calmly explain how you feel and who you want by your side on your special day.
  • Create a preliminary list. IIf you have many possible candidates, make a list of names and the reasons each person should be part of your court. You can even rate them on a scale from 1 to 10 to help make the decision more objective.
  • Communicate directly and respectfully. Once you’ve made your choices, invite each dama and chambelan personally. Be prepared for a possible “no,” as participating requires time, rehearsals, and sometimes a financial commitment. If someone can’t join, don’t take it personally.
  • Be prepared to manage group dynamics. Coordinating rehearsals, agreeing on details, and keeping everyone happy isn’t always easy. Remember that everyone has different personalities and preferences. Listen to everyone equally and avoid showing favoritism.
  • Stay alert. Identify potential issues early so you can resolve them before your celebration. With good planning and communication, everything will come together smoothly, allowing you to relax and enjoy your big day surrounded by the people you chose.
