Christian Chavez: “Libertad” Single Out Today!

It’s a sneak peek into an album-in-progress that is scheduled for release later this year. But more than a tease into what fans can expect from ex-RBD member Christian Chavez’s forthcoming album, “Libertad”, the first single to spin from the much-anticipated release, is an anthem for people that want to find freedom.

Written by Chavez himself and Samo, member of Mexican pop group Camila, and sung in duet with fellow ex-RBD member Anahi, “Freedom” speaks about the humanistic nature to fight for freedom and the need to love yourself just as you are. “When I wrote this song, I was thinking about when I was 16 and struggling with my sexuality,” states Chavez. “I remember wishing there was someone that I could look up to and someone that understood what I was going through”.

Chavez assures that the song can quite possibly serve as an anthem for people that feel a need to be liberated. “Libertad, libertad, no voy abandonar mis sueños” (Liberty, liberty, I won’t abandon my dreams) is the main chorus of the single and according to the singer, also a call of action. “You can’t be scared of what people might say or think about you. I know that as a teenager sometimes you find yourself in vulnerable situations, and you don’t know what to do. But liberty doesn’t have a price,” he adds. “You can have thousands of dollars, but if you don’t have your freedom, you won’t ever be truly living your own life.”

“Libertad” is available worldwide through iTunes today and its video, one where Chavez plays the role of a young man in search for his true identity, and one where both he and Anahi are drenched in the fabulous designs of young designers Johana Hernandez, Ton Y Not and Adolfo Sanchez, will be out this upcoming Saturday on Christian’s official YouTube channel.
